The Equaliser - Kui Muraya
Dr Kui Muraya: Research Fellow at The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, in Nairobi, Kenya. Fellow of the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL).
Her Research: Kui studies how gender affects access to health care, what role gender plays in someone providing health care within their family and how gender affects leadership within the health care system. As a social scientist and qualitative researcher, she is interested in the experiences and stories of people not just the hard numbers. Often researchers are focused on the numbers, for example how many girls or boys went to a clinic, but they don’t dig deep to understand what drives those numbers. Kui wants to know “the why”, and hear about it in depth, so that the underlying reasons can be understood, and appropriate programmes and interventions are developed to address those reasons. Watch her explain her work in general and her specific research on gender in health care leadership.
