A stellar organisation runs Novulakuvaliwe Library in rural Eastern Cape near Lusikisiki. They contacted us about our calendars and we sent through 300 of them that they distributed to local schools. The teachers they work thought they were great and would encourage learners to take science and maths courses. They asked for another 300 and with assistance from the Inspiring Fifty crowdfunding campaign we were able to deliver!
We’ve received some fabulous colour ins from our activity book pages and on Superhero day wanted to share the pages with everyone. Download them here and send back a pic of your character or colouring in of Nitro, and we’ll keep on adding new pages you can download for free.
With huge help from Inspiring Fifty South Africa and the leaders in science and technology they represent, 2000 calendars - not quite enough to really reach to the stars - have been donated to schools across South Africa. We’ve shipped out 1200 so far to schools across the counrty in and will be finalising the project in coming days. Thank you to everyone who donated.
We’ve partnered with the awesome organisation InspiringFifty South Africa, with some of the most amazing women in science and tech, to get as many of our 2021 calendars out to young people.
The calendars are filled with notable dates of science and technology and our awesome art as well as augmented reality. For less than a cup of coffee you can get a calendar in a child’s hand and give them a year of inspiration and learning. Donate R15 or more here. Thanks!

A huge congratulations to Peter Macharia, aka Geomatic, for defending his thesis with KEMRI | Wellcome Trust and the Open University and becoming Dr Macharia. Peters work is all about locations. Where do things happen and why? Specifically he wants to understand child health and what is the role of different disease and health interventions that aim to improve health. Learn about him here or follow him at @Twitter
Video profiles are a new way to share SuperScientists and their work. Our first is of Dr Drift aka Sohana Singh. Click below. We’re new to making videos and would love to get some feedback. Let us know what you think!
We’ve printed almost 5000 cards and 250 posters as we finish out our project with the SANTHE Network on gender equity in science and reimagining what a scientist looks like. Maphe, the principal investigator on the project below, will be visiting schools to share them and her experience as a PhD scientist. Really looking forward to it. Big thanks to SANTHE and the African Academy of Sciences for funding the project. #ScienceIsForEveryone
